Carlsbad Cosmetic Dentist Recommends the Top 7 Things to Do in 2012

carlsbad cosmetic dentistThe turkey has been eaten (again), pies, chocolate, candy, and eggnog are appearing in the rear view mirror, and now it's time to get on with living the New Year and your resoultions. I have found a sure fire way to stick to my resolutions each year, resulting in at least a 75% success rate. Not bad considering the average person abandons their resolutions within the first week of the new year. I'd love to give you the details about my method, but you'll have to ask me at your next appointment as there isn't enough room here to cover it deeply enough.

However, I will tell you the essence of it: keep it simple and don't try to fix enormous problems in one jump. Keeping that in mind as a Carlsbad cosmetic dentist, I have compiled a short list of pretty simple and easy things you can do this year to dramatically help the health and look of your smile. Here they are:

  1. You must have guessed it: brush twice daily for two minutes each time. Just doing this will improve your dental health dramatically - are you doing this already? If not, why not?
  2. Guess what's next? Flossing, you guessed it! You should floss at least once per day and it's important to do it right so as to optimize your efforts.
  3. Consume fewer sweets and sugar drinks (sodas). The more you avoid depositing sugar on the surfaces of your teeth, the more you decrease the opportunity for acid producing bacteria to form. This is an easy one to follow and it will help improve your waist-line as well!
  4. Drink more water particularly after eating or drinking something. While not an alternative to brushing your teeth twice daily, swishing water in your mouth after eating something will help remove food particles that harbor bacteria.
  5. Be proactive with your dental care. We say this a lot because it's one of the easiest things you can do. Visit your dentist an a regular basis to catch problems EARLY!
  6. Be Aware of your mouth – know what’s going on in there: is there pain, swelling, or soreness in your jaw? Act early and get suspected issues checked out quickly
  7. Say ‘NO’ to oral jewelry – we see a regular parade of people needing repairs to chipped teeth and eroded gums resulting from tongue studs and the hardware that goes in lip piercings

Beyond all this, as a Carlsbad cosmetic dentist concerned with how your teeth feel and look, I have put together a free guide to help you make good decisions about your oral health that you can download via the link below. Anyway, Happy New Year and I look foreward to seeing you soon!
