When you go to the store to buy a toothbrush you will find different types of toothbrushes - hard, medium, soft and extra soft bristles. Most of our lives we are taught to scrub harder to remove stains or dirt from objects we want to clean. My grandmother used to say "use a little elbow grease" and out would come that steel wool to scrub away the stain. Your teeth and gums are not as hard as a stove top or tile counter. The fact is dentists DO NOT recommend the hard or even medium bristled toothbrush for their patients because the bristles can damage the gums and the roots of the tooth.
